Gregor Jack's career as an MP seems doomed after a police raid on an Edinburgh brothel. Anonymous phone calls and letters threaten more revelations, and when his wife disappears, a couple of bodies are found and an asylum inmate starts to talk, Gregor Jack is just about ready for revenge. Inspector John Rebus can't afford to become involved.
